The March auditions for the 3rd monthly preliminary search for the Amazing Philippine Singing Star 2008 was a daunting task for the audition masters last March 10, 2008 at the Amazing Philippine Singing Star rehearsal Studio at the top of the majestic Manila Film Center.
There were 79 applicants who were vying to fill in the 11 slots available for the March 29 competition. The audition process went as follows; the 79 applicants were ushered into the rehearsal room and were asked to sing without any background music in front of the five audition masters. The audition masters then voted "yes" or "no" to qualify an applicant for the second screening. The first screening yielded 48 applicants. The second screening basically followed the same process and it yielded 24 hopefuls for the third screening.
By the third screening, the applicants were allowed to sing with a minus one. The audition masters by this time did not vote openly and kept the votes for the deliberation that followed right after the performance. This process took a longer period of time as we had to consider a lot of variables including the spread of the demographics of the final eleven.
The entire audition period lasted from 4pm up to 11pm that day. But we were basically happy with the outcome. It was a difficult chore since there were so many talented applicants and choosing the best was really quite a task.

Amazing Philippine Singing Star Search for February
A resounding success.... Ok, ok... we're new at this so I guess I'm a bit excited. But honestly speaking, compared to last January's disastrous episode, this is better by 2000%, thanks to the competence displayed by the production and technical people. We still have a lot to learn but otherwise I am way happy...

the february auditions
we had a very difficult time with the auditions this month. There were 35 applicants and the first screening produced 26, but we had to consider only 12 contestants. One of the 12 was disqualified because of a prior contract with another network and so we are down to eleven.

the February 2008 schedule
For the month of February, the Audition date will be on the 11th from 5pm to 8pm at the main theatre of Amazing Philippine Theatre, Manila Film Center, CCP Complex, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
After we've picked out the February Finalists, rehearsals with the band and the musical director will commence on the 13th. Technical rehearsals on the 21st and taping of the show on the 23rd. This will be aired over IBC 13 on March 1, 2008 from 10pm to 11pm.

the 1st ever search... january 26, 2008
Amidst the chaos of organizing an event, having it taped as live infront of a live audience, the bickering between people and the fact no one had any decent sleep for weeks, the First ever Search for the Amazing Philippine Singing Star in my opinion was a success... Most specially the show proper.
The only "bubu" we made was getting a foreigner counterpart who displayed the utmost incompetence in the technical side of the show and that is why I am personally laying my apology out to everyone because this pilot episode is not as perfect as we have hoped and planned for. But we do promise that come the February episode, we will do a better job and hire competent people for you, our audience.

the Rehearsals
So after picking out 12 competitors from 22 applicants last January 14, 2008 then came rehearsals. this is a sample of how rehearsals were conducted, the practice studio at the 4th floor of the Manila Film Center wasn't able to meet the schedule so we hauled the band equipment and the sound system in my office and our musical director Terence Guillermo rehearsed the January Finalists with our in-house band BLACK PIPE.
For more than a week, everybody had to bear with the constant banging and playing in my office.
It was quite difficult as well for everyone since we had to cut down the songs to approximately 2 minutes each so we can only play the highlights and whichever highlight the singer wanted to show off. After a week, it turrned out pretty well. Today, the sound system was delivered and installed at the main theatre of the manila film center. Tonight, everybody is on overtime to refurbish the set design and the other technical requirements of tomorrow's show.
Admission is free... so see you all in a while.

The First Search is on the way...
Last January 14, we short-listed applicants to 22 candidates from the first round of auditions. This yielded 15 finalists to the first ever Search for the Amazing Philippine Singing Star...
